Word of the day: Atardecer (Spanish)

Today’s “Word of the day” is atardecer. Atardecer is a Spanish word that means, “sunset”.

When you break it down the word or “palabra” consists of “tarde” which means “afternoon” or “late”. A sunset literally occurs after the afternoon is over. In essence think of its meaning as it getting darker because its something that occurs later in the day, when the day comes to an end and night begins.

Example: Los atardeceres son lindos en la playa.
Translation: Sunsets are beautiful by the beach.
