Word of the day: Tidur (Bahasa Indonesia)

Kata-kata hari ini: Tidur (Bahasa Indonesia)

Artinya (Meaning): to sleep

Contoh (Example): Apakah kalian sudah tidur? Jam dua siang sebelum waktu tidur.

Terjemahan (Translation): Are you guys already sleeping? Two o’clock is too early to be bed time.

***Unless you are enjoying “siesta time” ***

In this example, “waktu tidur” refers to bed time and not the verb sleep because “tidur” when combined with “waktu” a noun turns into more of an adjective, hence describing the time (waktu). Additionally, the word “kalian” is a pronoun used to refer to “you guys” in the plural. Unlike Romance languages and other languages such as Arabic, verbs in Bahasa Indonesia do not change to plural or singular because the subject is singular or plural. The verb always remains the same.

Jam dua siang sebelum waktu tidur = 2 oclock before sleeping time…

If you wanna say 2pm is too early to be bed time,… This following sentence is better:
Jam 2 siang terlalu pagi untuk tidur -> this sounds a bit weird using ‘pagi’ but that is what most indonesian would say 🙂
Jam 2 siang bukan waktu tidur (2pm is not a bed time)

    Btw… Great blog!!! ^^

Selamat pagi Ris. Terima kasih untuk komenter Anda tetapi ini hanya contoh. Saya mengatahu bahwa orang Indonesia tidak tidur selama jam itu, jadi saya menulis penjelasan dibawah frase itu.

Saya menggunakan contoh untuk menjelaskan situasi sama tapi itu ada di Spanyol tidak di Indonesia. Kegiatan namanya “siesta” dan itu di dalam kebudayaan spanyol saja. 😉
